Appearance: Anna is of an average height for a young teenage girl, perhaps a little on the short side. She has shoulder-length blonde hair that is usually held back by a large red kerchief. Her outfits are often simple: a sleeveless black dress that cuts off above her knees, red-strapped sandals reminiscent of an older, more simple Japanese fashion tradition. When she's not in her day clothes, but relaxing at home, she may lounge around in a yukata. Around her neck she wears a string of prayer beads. More often than not, the expression on her face is a strict one; she saves her softer expressions for Yoh, usually when he's not looking.

Personality: If Anna were a singular word, she'd have to be a word so immersed in meaning, so deep and difficult a concept to grasp, so wide with meaning, that her definition would easily take up at least half a page. That's the kind of person she is, that one cannot take but a single look at her to know her, but must spent an infinite amount of time in her company to understand all of her. A few of the first traits of Anna's that one would pick up is her seriousness, her strict nature, her stern and powerful glare. She might seem pompous or arrogant, better than you in every way and completely aware of it. She is straight forward, not one to mince words. She is decisive, though not quick to action. Anna might appear selfish and egotistical. She is demanding and none can argue against her decision once she has made it, not because she's impossibly stubborn, but because when Anna decides, it is somewhat like law. She is extremely practical and not given over to being particularly carefree.

Anna is a no-nonsense kind of person, intolerant of fools, and not the kind of person who makes friends easily. She can even come across as cold and uncaring, but those who know her better know that's not true. Yoh, who is one of the few who knows her past, knows that there was once a time a girl who was shunned from family, who had no one, and so had no love for herself. Even to this day, that little girl lingers inside, dormant, but present nonetheless. While Anna may be proud, bossy, and arrogant, much of her confidence comes from her love for Yoh, who befriended her when no one else would.

She has a caring side, though she rarely ever shows it. One has to know her well to see the tenderness of her personality, because she hides it so well under her rough exterior. But she desperately loves Yoh, and completely believes in him. One could say she's Yoh's number one fan, even though she never cheers for him. That's not how she shows her love. Her love is subtle and practical, mending Yoh's clothes and forcing training on him being the ways that she loves him best. Anna doesn't do mush or tears or kisses.

Abilities/Strengths: Anna is an itako, a shaman who can call forth any spirit, even those who have passed on. She is an extremely powerful itako, trained by Yoh's grandmother. It is because of her incredible spiritual capabilities that Anna is Yoh's fiancee, for only the extremely powerful may marry into the Asakura family.

Anna has a very commanding nature, and she easily uses this ability to force others to bend to her will. Even incredibly strong spirits can be easily overpowered by Anna, and fall under her command. She is such an incredible force that way, and some of those she has subdued surprise even Yoh and other shaman at times, when the learn with what ease she earned control.

She has a strong heart, and an equally strong and determined mind. She knows what she wants and will do anything to get it. Anna rarely hesitates, or at least, is rarely ever seen hesitating. She is unshakable in her belief in Yoh's abilities, and for that reason never worries when he's facing a danger that seems impossible to overcome. Anna believes that if she worries for Yoh, then she doubts his abilities to win, and she will always believe in him.

When she was younger, up until the age of ten, Anna had the ability to feel other people's emotions: a type of telepathy that was impossible to turn off. As a result of this power, she felt the emotions of anyone around her, and because her spiritual power was so strong then too, it resulted in creating an oni, a type of monster that feeds off the creator's rage, anger, fear, resentment -all the negative feelings, all of which were multiplied within Anna because she could feel not just her own anger and jealousy, but others' as well. She still retains this power, but through extraordinary training and willpower, she has managed to keep it in check, so that she has seemed to develop a way to block the flow of outside emotions. When and if this will break down is uncertain; if it is permanent or temporary no one knows. But Anna has since had no problems with oni appearing. (Note: This...is pretty much her AU. In canon she no longer has this power by the time she's 13).

Weaknesses: Anna is really a vulnerable person on the inside: one of the reasons she tends to hide tender emotions is because of her harsh childhood, and because when she was younger no one loved her. She fears being hurt, especially by Yoh. She is constantly jealous of any woman who gets near him, and often accuses Yoh of having affairs (for example, when Yoh received the spirit pager for the shaman fights, Anna assumed it was a gift from his 'mistress', and wouldn't be convinced otherwise, until she saw for herself its purpose).

She has a low tolerance for fools and dimwits, which is a weakness in that she alienates a lot of people from becoming close to her. Few besides Yoh and the Asakura family are considered close to her, though she gradually forms a bit of tolerance for the friends that Yoh makes and travels with. She tends to get along best with Ren, who is similar in some ways to herself. Anna doesn't have any friends of her own, and that can get a little lonely, whether she admits it or not.

Yoh is her biggest weakness: he's the one she cares most about. Luckily, he's very strong in his own right, and Anna has so much love for him that she would never let him see her doubt in him, but should anything ever happen to Yoh (that is, if he ever died), Anna would be lost without him. As long as he lives, she's fine.

Notable Possessions: A 1080 string of prayer beads, her red headscarf.

History: When Anna was born, she came into the world bearing the power to feel others' emotions, and as a result of this power, her parents abandoned her when she was young. Because of her great spiritual potential, Yoh's grandmother, the great itako Asakura Kino. While Kino trained her, fed her, and gave her a place to call home, Anna was a solitary person for the first ten years of her life -unhappy and unwilling to let others get close to her.

When she was ten, Anna was suggested as the future bride for Asakura Yoh, the heir to the Asakura family and a shaman-in-training himself. In the Asakura family tradition, only powerful shaman are selected to marry into the family, and Anna's potential was recognized as worthy of becoming a member of the Asakura. Once the selection was made, Yoh came to visit his future bride, but Anna, who never let anyone get emotionally close to her, was rude and cold to her husband-to-be (despite this, Yoh fell for her anyway). It turned out that because of Anna's power of feeling other people's emotions, coupled with her strong shamanic powers, had created a creature called an "oni", something that is made out of its creator's sorrow and hatred and jealousy. Because Anna already felt these emotions, the emotions of others amplified them and the oni was born. When Yoh learned of the oni that followed Anna around and injured the people around her, he made her a promise that he would become Shaman King and make Anna happy. She has held him to that promise to the present day.

A few years later, Anna went to Tokyo, where Yoh had already gone in preparation for the Shaman Tournament. He was in the hospital when she first arrived, having lost a fight against another shaman by the name of Tao Ren. Once Yoh was healed enough, Anna used up all of his spring break forcing him through training, to better his shamanic skills. The two of them shared an abandoned hotel as their home for the months they stayed in Tokyo, prior to and during the first stage of the Shaman Fight. When Yoh lost his second fight to Faust VIII (and nearly his life too), Yoh returned home to undergo even more training, an ordeal more intense than Anna's regime. She followed, and waited, worrying for him. It would be the start of Yoh's journey where Anna would not follow, but would wait and do what she could away from him. When the tournament sent Yoh off to America, Anna remained in Japan, and obtained possession of the Tchosen Jiryaketsu -a book that contained all of Asakura Hao's techniques. Anna went to America to give it to Yoh, but first studied it and learned the techniques inside herself, quickly sealing the demons left to protect the book.

Anna caught up with Yoh near the end of the second round of the Tournament, and helped pick his team for the third round, fought in teams of three. Being Anna, she also forced the team name to be "Funbari Onsen", to reflect Anna's secret ambition -to own and run an onsen one day.

It is at the point during the team tournaments when Yoh has agreed to drop out of the Shaman Fight in order to save Ren that Anna is brought abruptly to Econtra.
